Hello Mr. Crawford, it is Monday September 4th 2017 , Labor Day - I came across a knife that says Crawford Design Point Guard on the blade, in my teenage sons dresser drawer , he's gone away for awhile and won't be needing it. I researched it on the internet and when I came across your website just to get a little information about the knife which has CRKT on one side of the blade, I read about your son John Cody. I looked at the pictures and read a lot Of the words from his friends and colleagues - I'm 54 and have 3 kids , one of them is my boy Jesse. I looked for a link on the website for leaving a message and I couldn't find one, even after clicking the link to Codys page - I am on my phone instead of my computer and it's easy to miss things on my phone but either way I tapped the link to this email address - and the reason that I am writing this is because I couldn't feel better until somehow letting you know that the tribute to your son really touched my heart. He looked like such a good kid in both earlier years as well as teen years.

If this isn't something you'd prefer to be sent to your email then I apologize but I need you to know how very very sorry I am that your son passed away. Almost angers me that God couldn't just heal him, but I have friends and relatives passing away now and then and I wonder why then too - so please accept my most sincere condolences for the loss of your son Cody, you can hopefully take a slight bit of comfort in knowing that your son touched the heart of an everyday average Joe from California and his face will remain in my mind for a long time to come.

with the very most love and sincerity possible,

Jess W.

Dear Pat and Wes-

I haven’t had a chance to chat over the past couple of shows, so I was unaware of the loss of your son/grandson.  I remember you showing me photos of him from a hunting trip, proudly displaying a trophy buck.

Please accept my condolences, even though they are late.

With sympathy,

Adam

Dear Crawford family, as a 100% Disabled American Veteran, my Crawford Survival Staff (tm) enables me to hike the local fields and forests each and every day with safety and surety. Now I know how and why. Your beloved Cody has been watching me and guiding me each day as my gentle, silent but ever vigilant protector.

The wondrous motto of Scotland's Clan Crawford is "Tutem te robore reddam." "I will make thee safe by my strength."

Cody's strength continues to make safe his amazing family, his friends, his neighbors and complete strangers in need of compassionate assistance.

Henceforth, during my daily hikes taken to stabilize my life long injuries, I will now have the joy of talking to your one and only Cody about wild animals encountered, compass headings taken, hills climbed and creeks crossed. Cody will be my constant hiking companion. What a blessing!

Please accept my deepest condolences that Cody was called Home by the Good Lord at a time that makes no sense. May the Good Lord and His Son provide comfort and consolation as you mourn the loss of a beyond fantastic young man who will live and shine brightly forever in my mind.

Respectfully, Christopher F.

Dear Pat,

While we have never met, I have talked with you many times as I looked for your help in adding the special touches I looked to add to your knives.  Each time I received one they ALWAYS EXCEEDED my expectations!  Thank you

Today I read that you lost your Grandson and words can not express my sincere sadness for you, your wife, Wes and Cody's Mom.  But at the same time, you had the rare opportunity to see how much he was thought of and loved.  As sad as you all are, you should
be so proud of how he was raised and the fact that everyone who knew him will live a better life because of Cody.

Dear Janie & Wes, dear Pat,
I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved Cody. It really broke my heart to see that he passed away all too soon when I visited your website just now. The pride and joy he was for you and your family has always been so palpable to me from the photos of him that you shared on your website through the years, that I came to like him even without ever having had the chance to meet him or you in person.
The photo of you, Wes, and him together at the machine when he made his first steel knife will always be special to me as one of the magic moments between father and son that we all live for.
My best wishes for you, your whole family, his girlfriend and all the many caring friends he was happy to have.

Cody was a great kid and he will be missed so much. He was dating KK my best friend and he treated her like a princess. She couldn't have found a better man if she tried. He was an amazing friend. He knew how to make people smile and laugh. He will never be forgotten. I can not wait to get to Heaven and see him again. If there are trucks in Heaven he has got the biggest and badest one there. My prayers and best wishes are with his family and everyone who knew him.

Dear Crawford Family;

I'm deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your beloved Cody. I met Wes and Pat several years ago in NYC at the Times Plaza Hotel Knife show (remember the Gold coin?). We talked as if we knew one another for years and I saw the pride and joy beaming from your eyes when you mentioned Cody. My prayers are with all of you during this painful and difficult time, I will be here if you need anything.

Wes & Pat,

I am a collector and own several of your knives. I read in the March 2013 issue of Blade Magazine the list of individuals who passed in 2012. While I did not know your son / grandson, I am certain that he was a first class young man, simply because of your family's impeccable reputation for excellence.

Kindest regards,

Jim

Cody was an amazing best friend. But not only was he a best friend but I also considered him to be family. I looked up to him, he had awesome hunting and fishing skills that would make me look inexperienced.  Janie and Wes raised Cody to be respectful, polite, and just a good ole country boy. He will always have a piece of me that can never be fulfilled. Cody will most definitely be missed. P

Wes, Pat and all of the Crawford family:

I just learned today of the very sad news of Cody's death. Although I only met Cody a few times at Blade, it didn't take much time to realize that Cody was a very special young man. So well mannered, mature and with a wonderful personality and always wearing a contagious smile on his face. After meeting Cody, I quickly understood why Pat was always talking about him and so proud of him. I loved hearing Pat tell of his outdoor adventures with Cody. I always wanted to buy one of Cody's knives, but he always sold out so quickly I was never able to get one.
Please know that you all have been and are in the thoughts and prayers of so many people all around the world. My most sincere condolences on your loss.

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful comments about Cody we just read. He was the best child any parents could have (although we realize there are so many wonderful kids just like him and a lot of them have been here for us). Cody always had a smile on his face from the time he was born. He was very, very loving and protective of his sister. He insisted on taking her to school every morning and waved and revved the engine twice to say bye. We learned from Chandler Astin that Cody was worried Christy wouldn't have college money when the time came since Grandpa wanted to pay his so he told Chandler he wanted to open his own account and start saving for her college. This is why we asked that any memorials be sent to her account for college. We had no idea he wanted this and will add to the fund over the years for her in his honor. The memorial service at Chapel at WMCHS with the slideshow was so beautiful as well as stories told by Chandler Astin, J.T. Henson and J.W. Seale. West Memphis Christian High School, everyone at St. Michaels Catholic School, friends from Marion, West Memphis, knife makers & our knife customers from around the world, Caitlyn Bailey and her family, Patrick Harlow (Janie's brother), especially the WMCS Class of 2013, have helped us to stay alive during this horribly sad time. Patrick has been here since the beginning and has watched over us 24/7. Brother Chris Arnold of First Baptist Church of Marion, WMCHS and Kent Hale and Jamie Gore of Roller Citizens handled everything so beautifully the way we know Cody would have wanted it. The candlelight vigil and all the roses/caps left by all the kids touched our hearts deeply. We appreciate everything and pray you all will keep Cody in your hearts forever. We will never forget your love. Love, Wes, Janie & Christy

But when you feel your energy drain,
Please count on us to help ease your pain.

We hope with time you'll feel relief.
We can't replace the one who's gone,
But let our concern help you carry on.

We love you both!

I saw Cody in a couple of your videos.  I thought to myself, "what a very nice young man."  In one video he was making a presentation with his grandfather.  I immediately thought, "this is a very nice family business."

I am a father and a grandfather.  I love my sons and grandchildren deeply, very deeply.  I am so sorry to hear about Cody.  So very, very sorry.

We don't know each other, but I would have gladly traded places with Cody so you could have him back, so he could have his life back.

I've had multiple open heart operations over the years with an aortic valve replaced at the end of last year and a aortic femoral by-pass this past August.  My problems were due to exposure to Agent Orange decades ago.  But, I've lived a good life and someone like me should have been taken, not a young man like Cody.

Take your time with the staff.  I'm in no hurry at all.  I feel so saddened by your loss.  There are limits to what I can do, but if there is anything I can do for your family that I am capable of doing, I will do it.  Again, I am so sorry.

Hi Pat and Wes,

Pat, I've been traveling lately and completely missed the devastating news about Cody. This has to be a terrible blow to all of you and while there is nothing anyone can say that lessens that pain, maybe it's some slight consolation that all your friends have to have you all in our prayers and thoughts. It was obvious from the web site and our conversations that yours was a close and loving family.

Sincerely and Sorrowfully,

Don Russell

Dear Pat and Wes,

I was looking on your website last night to see what new knives you might be bringing to the show and I was shocked and saddened to hear about Cody's untimely passing. My condolences to you and the family, I can't imagine what you guys have been going through. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all during this difficult time. I hope to see you guys again at the East Coast Custom Knife Show in March.

Sincerely,

Jeff Yang

Pat & Wes,

I just took a look at your web site, and I am absolutely saddened by Cody's passing. I hadn't heard, and it sure came as a shock. I feel like I watched Cody grow up at Blade Show over the last 8 to 10 years, and I always enjoyed talking to him, mostly about his latest adventures on his dirt bike. I can't even imagine what it must be like for the whole family, I feel like I just got kicked in the gut hearing about it. Please know that you are not alone feeling this loss, especially for a young man like Cody, who always seemed so happy and full of life. I know it doesn't make it any better, but I get the feeling that knowing the way Cody lived, he just may have done more living in his 18 years than most of us do in a lifetime. All of us in the knife world will be keeping all of you in our hearts during this awful time, especially with the Holidays coming up. Take care, and please know I'm thinking of Cody and all of you, always.

All the best,

Love,

Pat and Wes....I just heard about your tragedy, Cody's passing.   Deb and I weren't blessed with kids but I've always heard of how painful it is to outlive your kids.   know that you are in our prayers and we'll do what we can do to have our friends and your friends lifting you and your loved ones in prayer.  Deb just lost her dad and we buried Paul Fox on Friday.  Durned if it isn't raining bullets.   I finally gave up trying to understand "why" and am now praying for enlightenment as to where do we go from here ?    Know that we are with you in your grief and sharing in your pain.   May God's blessings be with us all.    Tim

Hi Pat,

Spoke to Janie yesterday-  I am still heartbroken so I cannot imagine what is going on with you guys.

I am sure it will never be the same Christmas at your home again.

I am Jewish and believe in God just as almost every other normal person in the world does.   I also know that faith helps us all through tough times.

I also know that people pass on at various times in their lives and that is a part of what  our existence in the mortal world dictates.

But, for the Lord to have taken Cody at such a young age and such a wonderful young man, religious and faithful to his family and friends, just doesn’t sit with me.  makes me wonder what really goes on up there. If HE had to take somebody that day, I could have provided him with a very long list of suitable alternates.

I just think is stinks-   it’s just not fair.

Sorry for the rant.

Best wishes to all of you and to Cody in heaven.

Pat, Wes & Janie,

I often check up on your website because I'm a big fan of your knives, and plus I purchased your Dragon and the Perseco.  So, it came as a big shock for me to hear about the tragic news of Cody's passing.  I don't know your family well, but I did see some of your family pics on your website.  My family and I are truly saddened on your sudden loss, and our hearts are with you in this time of sorrow.

Pat,

News has peculiar ways of getting around and sometimes is inaccurate, so….I preface my remarks with this statement, “I pray the news is incorrect, but…” I heard that you and your family suffered a truly awful loss with the passing of a child.

I am so, so  sorry and wish you all my sincere condolences and wish you also all the strength necessary to endure this tragedy. Missed you in Jersey City.  Apologies for this method of sending the message, but its expedient. Bless you all. From an appreciative and long time customer.

Hey everyone!  I know I haven't gotten to email you guys since I got over here, so I thought I would give you an update.  Currently, I am at a Patrol Base called XXXXXXX, Afghanistan.  Everything is going pretty well here.  Very quiet.  The weather is really cold at night, but pleasant during the day.  My soldiers are doing well and we are all looking forward to coming home sooner as opposed to later.  I know it's been an incredibly tough holiday without Cody.  There isn't hardly a day that goes by, even in Afghanistan, when I don't think about him.  While Garrett and I never had the opportunity to really interact with Christy, Cody was always close in our hearts and minds.  I will never forget what a shining example Cody was.  I hope that you all can find some peace today. I look forward to coming back home and seeing you all this summer.  Please take care, enjoy the New Year, and give everyone a big hug for me.

As Always, With Love,

Jonathan

I just read on your site about the loss of your son and grandson Cody, I wanted to express my condolences to you and your family. All the best and stay strong,

Chris

Pat and Wes,

Julie and I are crying as we write this....

I can't believe it. Just found out.

We spend hours and hours with Cody over the years watching him grow up, a couple of years ago Julie was trying to set him up with some young girls at the Blade Show, and Cody was having a blast with us.

I had to read it about 6 times to make sure.

Our prayers are with you.

I am so sorry about all this, such a great guy, a sense of humor and adventure most kids will never know. He was a one of a kind.

Lots of Love to the Family,

John and Julie (Denton)

Mr. Crawford,

Happy New Year for what its worth. Take care and God bless and comfort you and your family. Thanks

Hi Pat,

This is Scooter Felts.  I hope you and family are doing well.  I was VERY sad to hear about your Grandson Cody.  I cannot imagine how hard it must be for Wesley and Janie.  You have my sincere condolences.

Take care,

Earl “Scooter” Felts

Wes & Janie,

I am so very, very sorry for your loss as no words can do justice to the pain you all must feel.

He seemed like a great kid and I am also terribly sorry for his girlfriend as it will always be the marriage and life that could have been.... nothing will live up to the promise of what she had with your son.

Thank you,

Alexander Cassini

Hello. My name is Michael Ramos. I have been collecting knives since I was just a teenager. I have so much love and respect for the design and art that comes with a fine crafted knife. I had never heard of Crawford knives till today and I am so grateful for coming across your site. I absolutely love your drop point neck knives. Such a beautiful and simple design. The reason I am writing tonight is to simply say thank you. Thank you for what you do. I can't imagine how much hard work goes into these knives. It truly is an art. I read the story about John Cody Crawford and my heart goes out to y'all. He must be super proud of what y'all do and I am sure that he is watching from above.  I don't want to waste anymore of your time but I really do love your knives and hope to purchase one day. God bless you all. Stay sharp
